Keith Ruiter Ph.D.
Bio
Born in Canada, I have since travelled extensively, cultivating a diverse skill-set in cultural, social, legal, environmental and public history in centres of international research excellence, including the University of York’s Centre for Medieval Studies and Institute for the Public Understanding of the Past (IPUP) and the University of Aberdeen's Centre for Scandinavian Studies.
Employment
I am Senior Lecturer in History at the University of Suffolk where I work on an array of projects relating to medieval and early modern history, digital and blended learning, foodways and agricultural buildings and gamified approaches to the past.
I have previously worked as Project Manager at the University of the Highlands and Islands’ Centre for Northern Studies, and as Assistant Professor and Director of the Centre for the Study of the Viking Age at the University of Nottingham. In these roles, I have led teams of researchers, catalyzing institutional and community collaboration in research, teaching, and heritage practice. I also consult on historical content, most recently working with Wildflame Productions on a historical television production.
